The Counseling Process

The first half an hour of your session will be used to complete paperwork and discuss our policies and confidentiality. Your counselor will ask you questions during the next hour and will conduct a full assessment of your current situation, including your social, psychological, medical, and spiritual background. During this time, he or she will listen to you or you and your partner (if applicable).

During session two your counselor will continue listening to you and will design a treatment plan that works for you. This plan outlines the goals (long-term and short term) you wish to accomplish during treatment so that you are able to track your progress and see what you have achieved. Counselors often like to include time frames that range from 30 days to 90 days from the moment the plan is created, and describe what will happen once you reach your goals.

Homework Assignments

Counselor frequently assign fun and informative work to be completed outside of the session.

The goal of these tasks is to (1) reinforce the hard work involved in positive change; (2) develop self awareness; (3) practice the skills you have learned in different settings; (4) and provide you with a tool you can keep with you at all times .
