We work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues. In individual counseling, the focus is on helping our patients develop a relationship with the therapist as, most often, a positive relationship translates into symptom reduction and/or personal development. Patients become involved in a self-reflective process that facilitates healing. Individual counseling is best suited for the treatment of depression, anxiety, personality disorders, stress, insomnia, PTSD, OCD, and many other mental health conditions.
Couples therapy, also known as relationship counseling, is more intense than individual therapy because the focus is on two people rather than one. This modality frequently targets communication patterns and relationship history. Unlike individual therapy, the focus is on "we" and the relationship as client. Each person in the relationship learns to interact more efficiently and effectively with each other and receives feedback about the interaction. Couples therapy is helpful when couples are experiencing relationship issues (infidelity, codependency, family Conflict,) life transitions, marital and premarital conflict, divorce, domestic abuse (without violence). Similarly, Family counseling can help improve communication patterns and resolve existing conflicts between family members. Family therapy is useful when parents and/or children are experiencing school issues, teen violence, bullying, pospartum depression, parent-child conflict.
In Group therapy, members are encouraged to talk about their issues and discuss them as a group. Counselors observe the dynamic of the members of the group and help participants understand the reactions (e.g., behaviors, words) they display when interacting with other members. Through feedback from both the counselor and other members of the group, each participant is able to learn new skills and evaluate their own worldview. This modality is great for people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, are unable to control their anger, or cannot control their use of video games, play games, pornography, or the Internet.
