<p>Women make up arguably half the population in most societies.&nbsp; They do all of the same things that men do: go to school, raise a family, work in the community.&nbsp; However, despite these culture-based equalities, many women still find themselves on the lower rungs of the ladder when it comes to leadership roles.&nbsp; On a day such as Women&rsquo;s Day, this leads many to think about why that is, and what it could mean for the future.</p> <p><strong>The role of Women&rsquo;s Day</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; International Women&rsquo;s Day is a specific day of the year where the world turns its attention to women&rsquo;s rights and how they compare to a man&rsquo;s rights.&nbsp; This is true in the case of actual rights, such as the right to vote, but it also factors in &ldquo;softer&rdquo; details, including a woman&rsquo;s role within the workplace.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In many situations, women have all of the same rights as men, on paper, but actual day-to-day operations are a different matter.&nbsp; Men still hold many of the high-ranking positions and women still hold the lower ranks.&nbsp; Women&rsquo;s Day brings the &ldquo;why&rdquo; of this into question.</p> <p><strong>Why are there not more women leaders?</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; There are many powerful and driven women out there tht most of us are familiar with, but what about the everyday women that are around us?&nbsp; When surveyed, many women said that they were more comfortable with lower roles in a company because they&hellip;</p> <ul> <li><strong>Lack of leadership positions:</strong> When comparing a male to a younger, more experienced female for the job, young women often have difficulty in getting positions, assumed because of their lack of experience.&nbsp; In many cases, these overlooked younger options were better experienced than male applicants.</li> </ul> <ul> <li><strong>Suffered confidence issues:</strong> From negative comments in those around them, to simple self-confidence issues, most women are more comfortable following rather than being the leader at the front of the pack.&nbsp; This is especially so with younger women.</li> </ul> <ul> <li><strong>Negative voices for female-led plans:</strong> Similarly, male co-workers or spectators often would look down on a plan designed by, and operated by women simply because a woman created it.&nbsp; This negativity built into thep process makes many women simply stick to lower rungs.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; These are just a few of the issues faced in modern workplaces by strong, educated, and motivated women.</p> <p><strong>How to create a true &ldquo;equal society&rdquo;</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On a day where we look to women and their crucial role in society, many wonder how we can address these very modern and relevant problems for the better.&nbsp; Possible solutions for easier equality could include:</p> <ul> <li><strong>More documentation on current female leaders:</strong> LAck of documentation means less data to work from, and it also leads many female students to believe that no one like them can make it to the top ranks.</li> </ul> <ul> <li><strong>Dedicated training programs for women: </strong>Studies show that women focus on these higher roels out of a sense of duty and responsibility to their community.&nbsp; This is a common treat that can be used to help motivate young women coming into the workforce.</li> </ul> <ul> <li><strong>Acceptance of female leadership:</strong> Women focus on relationship supports, individual development and public service.&nbsp; These are all things that can be, and should be, accepted into a company&rsquo;s inner workings.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While all of these problems and possible solutions should be front of mind each day, Women&rsquo;s Day is as good a day as any to start!</p>
