Behavioral Health Employee Assistance Program

EAP is a service that can be accessed through your employer to relieve your personal problems and work-related issues, which could be affecting your well-being or job performance.

EAP typically offers free and immediate access to assessments and counseling, privately and virtually (if necessary). It is intrinsically flexible and allows you to receive assistance during or after a traumatic incident has occurred at work or in your personal life based on your needs and preferences. You can improve your well-being in a confidential manner while defending yourself from the risk of decreased productivity, absenteeism, and calling out sick.

EAP services are often delivered face-to-face or online. We use multiple counseling modalities and offer immediate support for work or life issues by meeting you in person or through teletherapy.

Our interventions are designed to assist you, the employee, as you navigate uncertain and unpredictable times, which in turn may be adversely affecting your performance at work. These personal problems include relationship challenges, financial difficulties, wellness matters, work-related trauma, and violence, among others. Our EAP services can be extended to family members such as your spouse, children our partners who live in the same household.

    Critical Incident Response

    When tragic events occur, such as a personal accident, terminal or chronic illness, unexpected death, suicide, or violence at work or at home, suicide, the impact can be devastating and leave you emotionally overwhelmed.

    Critical incidents bring with them significant physical, cognitive, and emotional reactions that may need to be addressed by professionals who can help you effectively deal with those reactions so that you can return to normalcy more quickly and disruption is reduced.

    At WMH, we offer critical incident response services and group interventions. These services often include confidential sessions specially designed to help reduce the impact of tragic event and accelerate recovery. Our holistic assessment of and response to managing wellness will create a positive environment for all team members.

    Workshops and Groups Services

    These services are designed to meet the needs of employees and managers in the evolving workplace.

    • Grief/Trauma: To help employees process feelings related to a co-worker or family member who has died or who is terminally ill.
    • Workshop: Team building activities for stress reduction, improved energy and productivity, work-life balance, pain and more.
    • Mindfulness: Simple techniques to calm the mind, relax the body, and have better control over your emotional state.
    • Training: Cultivate emotional intelligence, resolve conflict, confront sexual harassment, manage through turbulent times, or develop effective communicating styles.

    Common EAP Questions

    EAPs offers a wide range of services and resources to both employers and employees to support the overall strength and functionality of every component within your workplace. Most employers agree that reducing employee health risks, reducing healthcare costs and improving employee productivity are top company objectives. When you combine the costs and risks associated with chronic illness and mental health the use of EAPs is an obvious choice.

    Call your company’s EAP. Provide your information and employer name. Schedule an available time and a counselor that fits your needs. Set up an appointment and start treatment.

    EAP services are free of charge. However, only a limited number of sessions will be available. Your therapist will assess if your issue can be resolved in the number of sessions and, if necessary, refer you to a provider who is best suited to address your needs. Once referred, you will be responsible for payment.

    EAP services follow strict standards of privacy and confidentiality according to State and Federal guidelines, unless disclosure of information is required by law or court order. Records of all services are kept private and are unavailable to your employer.

    Employers can begin by reminding the employee about EAP, calling EAP to consult and decide whether a referral is appropriate, or making a formal referral to EAP on behalf of the employee. Employees, on the other hand, should call their EAP provider and request behavioral health services directly.

    Connect employees to relevant information and resources to support personal health and improved work/life balance. Alternatively, provide training and consultations for managers and supervisors to address existing organizational concerns.

    EAPs remain underutilized due to the inability to effectively communicate their value and impact. The way EAP is deployed and advertised lacks scope and breadth. As a result, the EAP services are often fragmented, uncoordinated and even duplicative.
