About Me

My love for psychology and the mental health field began at a young age. Everything about people intrigued me, and still does. Once my interest was sparked, there was no looking back. I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. While at UNCW, I became especially interested in the field of neuropsychology due to the teachings of one of my professors, a neuropsychologist, who became my mentor. After formal training and completing my M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling and M.S. in Vocational Evaluation from East Carolina University, I worked as a psychometrist, counselor, and cognitive rehabilitation therapist in my mentor’s private practice for many years. From 2010 – 2020, I worked with Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and Veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, trauma, depression, and anxiety at the Camp Lejeune Intrepid Spirit Concussion Recovery Center in Jacksonville, N.C. Since August 2020, I have been with Wilmington Mental Health providing individual counseling and mental health evaluations to those with mental health issues and to those who feel overwhelmed by stress, feel numb or disconnected, feel “stuck” and need direction, have constant negative intrusive thoughts, have experienced a significant life changing event, have experienced a distressing or traumatic event (PTSD), or simply want to make a change for personal growth.

My Process

Together, we will design a treatment approach tailored specifically to your wants, needs, and goals. Initially, I will complete a comprehensive clinical assessment in order to help me better understand you and your life experiences. I will gather information about you including your background, treatment history, and current mental health symptoms. We will then collaborate and examine underlying circumstances of your symptoms to identify treatment goals. As your treatment progresses, I will present tools, skills, techniques, and solutions to assist you in personal growth and accomplishing your goals.

I use the evidence-based treatments: Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). My goal as your therapist is to help you develop healthy coping mechanisms and life skills needed in order for you to be able to solve your problems independently and for you to feel whole again. If your current struggles make you feel like you're treading water in the middle of the ocean, I am here to help you find your way back.
